advances in Junior Legion Tyler Lilja hit a pair of solo home runs as part of a 3-for-4 day to help lead West Hempfield sweep its best-of-three series against rival Hempfield East with a 10-7 win yesterday. The win allowed West Hempfield to move into the Westmoreland Junior American Legion semifinals. Hempfield East came into the playoffs as the top seed in the tournament, but had five players on vacation when the series started. Greg Martin picked up the win with 2 2/3 innings of no-hit relief. He did, however surrender four walks, one of which turned into a fifth-inning run. EJ Sadler pitched the seventh for the save. West Hempfield, which pounded out 14 hits, faces Greensburg next. Greensburg 10, Elizabeth 9 — Kevin March and Sam Matti scored Greensburg's game-winning runs on a double by Romulus Marino, as Greensburg edged Elizabeth forward for a victory in the Westmoreland Junior American Legion quarterfinals.
