Murrysville scored six runs in the fifth inning to erase a two-run
deficit and rally for an 8-5 victory against Irwin on Tuesday in Game 3 of
the District 31 American Legion playoffs. Murrysville, the highest
remaining seed in the tournament, will play host to Bushy Run at 5:30 p.m.
Thursday at Haymaker Park. An error helped Murrysville tie the
score, 2-2, in the fourth inning, and then after Irwin grabbed a 4-2 lead,
Murrysville scored six runs on six hits. Key hits included Bobby
McGrath's two-run double and a two-run triple by Logan Madera.
McGrath worked six innings for the win. Dylin Brooks had three hits,
including a two-run double for Irwin. Ryan Loutsenhizer had a two-run
single.
» West Hempfield 8, Latrobe 3 — Tim Norris' three-run triple
highlighted a five-run eighth inning, and West Hempfield knocked off No. 2
Latrobe to win the best-of-three series, 2-1. West Hempfield grabbed a 4-3
lead in the eighth inning on an RBI single by Doug Ansick. Norris later
cleared the bases and scored on a single by winning pitcher Zach
Zimmerman. West Hempfield will now play Greensburg in the semifinals
at Greensburg Salem at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
Latrobe managed only three hits in the contest.
