Greensburg and Bushy Run American Legion baseball teams will be playing
for the District 31 title on Monday after completing sweeps in their
best-of-3 series on Saturday. The two teams will play the
championship game at 5 p.m. Monday at Westmoreland County Community
College. Both teams will represent District 31 in the Region 7 tournament
at Clearfield.
Greensburg used a two-run home run by Nick Diehl and a two-run single
by Nick Draghi to rally for an 11-6 win against West Hempfield at Lint
Field.
Diehl's blast tied the score at 6 after West Hempfield got home runs by
Tim Norris, Anthony Fanelli and Doug Ansick in a six-run third inning that
erased a 4-0 Greensburg lead. It was also the second time in a week
that Zerbini picked up a win in relief. ''Our players kept their
composure after their big inning," Greensburg coach Terry Mularski said.
"This group loves playing baseball, and they never get down. Diehl's home
run was big, and Dan (Zerbini) shut them down." Zerbini allowed only
one hit over the final four innings.
Nick Bergamasco homered and doubled, and Aaron McGee drove in five runs
with three doubles to lead Bushy Run to a 12-6 victory against Murrysville
at Haymaker Park.
Bergamasco's blast in a three-run third inning broke a 6-all tie.
Carline Crombie had a double and three singles for Bushy Run. Josh
Staniscia had a double for Murrysville.
